Is This Renaissance - Band Bio
Is This Renaissance was founded in 2001 by Mario Tonda and fellow schoolmate Clarence Robbins while both were students at an Asheville, NC community college. Both found themselves unhappy with school, but shared a mutual love of jazz, rock, and exotic world textures. Both have made the rounds in various Asheville jazz ensembles, but Clarence, in particular, favors more rock-ish influences. Combine this with Mario's fever for the traditional Latin jazz he studied in school, and you've got a stunning synthesis of world elements that is equal parts rock soul and equal parts cool jazz attitude. The two are currently looking to tour the southeast after four years of increasingly popular sets at Vincent's Ear, their Asheville "home base."
